Wilfred Thesiger writes in Arabian Sands, “…there was a deeper reason that prompted me to make this journey….I had done it to escape a little longer from the machines that dominated this world. For me exploration was a personal venture…I find peace in the hardships of travel and the company of the peoples. There are experiences that do not need to be justified by material profits.; those experiences will last longer than the few days I spent on the journey.”
